Electrical engineering at Khuruthang VTI
7 February, 2010 - Of the total 261 vocational skills the country requires for social and economic development between 2008 and 2013, the need for electricians ranks sixth in terms of urgency.
Bearing that in mind, a four-year project on strengthening the quality of vocational educational and training delivery in Bhutan was launched in June 2009 under JICA technical cooperation.  

JICA officials said they wanted to help vocational institutes across the country, which offered electrical courses, produce skills and knowledge based on industrial and market need. 

Khuruthang vocational training institute (VTI), which was identified as a model institute for the project, will be responsible for quality training in two-year electrical engineering at certificate level and upgrading courses.  

“Khuruthang will become an institution, which can offer quality training on electrical engineering,” said a . 

Among others, the project installed necessary equipment for electrical courses, procured electrical equipment worth Nu 24 mn for Khuruthang and other vocational institutes across the country and is in the process of formulating a working group for promoting collaboration between VTIs and industries.
